In our “Meet the Team” series, we highlight the talented individuals who drive Phastar’s success. Each team member brings unique skills, experience, and passion to their role, working together to deliver high-quality biometrics and data science solutions in clinical research. Below, we share their career journey, insights, and the impact they make every day.
Can you tell us a bit about your background and what led you to join Phastar?
I hold a Master of Biostatistics from the University of Melbourne and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Italian Studies from the same university. I chose to pursue Biostatistics after taking a psychology class that included a guest lecture on statistical analysis, which I found fascinating.
Before joining Phastar, I worked as a Biostatistician at a large, full service CRO in Japan, focusing on Real World Evidence projects, mainly on safety periodic reporting. While planning my return to Australia, I was introduced to the opportunity at Phastar. During the interview process, I was impressed by the people I spoke with, and I was also excited by the chance to gain experience in clinical trials, which was a new area for me.
What is your role at Phastar, and what do you enjoy most about your day-to-day responsibilities?
I am currently a Statistician III at Phastar. I initially worked on project-based services (PBS) role and now work in a Functional Service Provider (FSP) role. What I enjoy most about my responsibilities is the chance to take on new challenges, whether they involve programming, statistical methods, or project management. It’s also rewarding to know that my work contributes, even in a small way, to the development of better treatments for diseases where options are limited.
What has been your favorite moment or achievement at Phastar so far?
One of the moments I have valued most at Phastar was leading an internal team on a study that went smoothly and receiving recognition for our work. I also feel a strong sense of achievement when working as part of a team on large and complex studies, knowing that my contribution helped ensure their success.
What opportunities for growth or professional development have you had since joining the team?
Phastar has given me the chance to expand my knowledge and skills through exposure to a variety of projects. Recently, through FSP projects with JMDC and MDV, I’ve been able to re-engage with Real World Data (RWD). Since RWD can still feel unfamiliar and difficult for many, I hope to deepen my expertise in this area and help make it more approachable and widely understood within the industry.
What do you value most about working at Phastar?
What I value most about working at Phastar is the truly international environment. It’s impressive to see how teams operate smoothly across very different time zones and still function as one. I also appreciate the company’s genuine efforts to improve efficiency and adopt new tools—something I found was often discussed but rarely implemented in my previous role.
Looking ahead, I hope to continue building my leadership and management skills while strengthening relationships within my current team and with the current client, contributing to its ongoing success. I also look forward to supporting the growth of the wider APAC team, helping Phastar achieve even greater impact.
