In our “Meet the Team” series, we highlight the talented individuals who drive Phastar’s success. Each team member brings unique skills, experience, and passion to their role, working together to deliver high-quality biometrics and data science solutions in clinical research. Below, we share their career journey, insights, and the impact they make every day.

Can you tell us a bit about your background and what led you to join Phastar?

I joined Phastar through the graduate scheme after attending a talk by one of their employees at Lancaster University, where I completed my MSc in Statistics and BSc in Mathematics with Statistics. The graduate training scheme initially appealed to me because it offered comprehensive training in SAS before starting the role. I was also drawn to the culture at Phastar and the social atmosphere within the offices, which made it feel like a supportive and engaging place to begin my career.

What is your role at Phastar, and what do you enjoy most about your day-to-day responsibilities?

In my FSP role I collaborate with and learn from a range of different functions. I work on early phase trials, gaining insight into how decisions are made around emerging data, and I support the wider study team in these discussions by providing statistical input and perspective.

I have also been involved in and led a number of internal initiatives that I am passionate about. These focus on growing knowledge both within and outside of Phastar and showcasing the expertise and innovations we have as a company, including co-chairing the early phase working group and chairing the IDAC working group.

As a line manager, I particularly enjoyed seeing how my reports developed over time and being able to support them in pursuing their interests and passions.

What has been your favorite moment or achievement at Phastar so far?

I led the development of and co-presented the DMC best practices webinar, and I am excited to see how we can build on this work both internally and externally. I also received a Silver Spot Award, an internal employee recognition award given for exceptional contributions, partly in recognition of the webinar and my involvement in the IDAC working group, as well as for my work in my FSP role. More recently, I was promoted to Principal Statistician, which represents the culmination of many years of hard work.

What opportunities for growth or professional development have you had since joining the team?

Training and knowledge sharing have always been a key part of Phastar, linking back to what initially attracted me to the graduate scheme. This continues throughout my time at the company, through statistics and programming forums, formal training sessions, and the opportunity to attend relevant external courses and conferences.

Since joining as a Statistician I and progressing to Principal Statistician, my role has evolved with each new level. I have moved from being a study team member to leading studies, developing training, and identifying opportunities for junior colleagues. Throughout this journey, I have always had the support of my colleagues and line manager, and I have been able to focus on the areas that interest me most.

What do you value most about working at Phastar?

What I enjoy most is the people I get to work with, collaborating with colleagues who are equally passionate about the studies and initiatives they are involved in, particularly when visiting the Macclesfield office and connecting in person.

I also value the opportunities for career development and the ability to work in areas that genuinely interest me.

Stories like Lisa’s show how careers can grow at Phastar.
