In our “Meet the Team” series, we highlight the talented individuals who drive Phastar’s success. Each team member brings unique skills, experience, and passion to their role, working together to deliver high-quality biometrics and data science solutions in clinical research. Below, we share their career journey, insights, and the impact they make every day.

Can you tell us a bit about your background and what led you to join Phastar?

Clinical trials rely on high-quality data to drive medical advancements, and I’ve spent the past twelve years ensuring that data is collected, structured, and managed effectively. With a background in ICT and Computer Science, I’ve always been drawn to the intersection of technology and healthcare. This interest led me to pursue a Master of Science in Health Informatics, specializing in data science, at Moi University in Kenya.

My career in clinical research began at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital’s AMPATH Center, where I worked on data management for clinical trials. Over the years, I’ve designed electronic Case Report Forms (eCRFs) and developed data collection tools across various databases.  Phastar stood out to me as a company with a strong reputation for scientific excellence and a workplace culture that values employees. The opportunity to work for a specialist CRO, in a global team that prioritizes scientific integrity and client satisfaction was a perfect fit for my professional values and aspirations.

What is your role at Phastar, and what do you enjoy most about your day-to-day responsibilities?

My work involves designing and managing clinical trial databases using advanced tools like Rave EDC. From building eCRFs and programming edit checks to conducting User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and managing lab data, every task contributes to maintaining high data quality.

Beyond database design, I generate key study reports using R and perform PROC comparisons in SAS during database builds and study migrations. Reviewing and resolving data queries and conducting listing reviews are also part of my day-to-day task, ensuring that every data set is clean, accurate, and ready for analysis. What I enjoy most is the opportunity to work on multiple studies, applying database programming skills while upholding the highest quality standards. Knowing that my work directly impacts the integrity of clinical data—and, ultimately, patient care—makes it incredibly rewarding.

What has been your favorite moment or achievement at Phastar so far?

At Phastar, I’ve had the privilege of receiving several spot awards (an internal scheme that celebrates employees who exemplify company values—Excellence, Collaboration, Innovation, Integrity, and Passion) in recognition of my contributions to database design across various studies. These projects went live on time, and being part of those successes has been incredibly rewarding.

What made these achievements even more meaningful, however, was the supportive and collaborative culture within the company. Phastar places a strong emphasis on teamwork and continuous learning, and that has played a huge role in helping me grow professionally.

The mentorship and encouragement I’ve received from both peers and senior team members have been invaluable. With the company’s commitment to fostering growth and innovation, I’ve had the opportunity to not only reach this milestone but also continue striving for excellence in everything I do.

What opportunities for growth or professional development have you had since joining the team?

Since joining Phastar, I’ve been fortunate to experience numerous opportunities for growth and professional development that have enhanced both my technical and non-technical skills. One of the most valuable experiences was attending the international ACDM25 conference in Prague, Czechia, courtesy of Phastar. There, I had the chance to present a research poster, network with global experts, explore the latest innovations in clinical trials, and gain new insights into best practices within the industry.

In addition to the conference, Phastar has provided training opportunities in areas like SAS programming, Clinical Data Studio, and data analysis using R. These training sessions have been crucial in keeping me current with industry trends and furthering my expertise in clinical data management. Along the way, I’ve received invaluable mentorship from experienced colleagues and senior leaders, whose guidance has been especially helpful when navigating complex projects or tackling challenges.

This combination of experiences has not only broadened my understanding of the field but also reinforced Phastar’s commitment to supporting my ongoing development and exposure to industry-leading expertise.

What do you value most about working at Phastar?

What I value most about working at Phastar is the strong emphasis on both work-life balance and professional growth. The company’s flexible work arrangements, such as compressed hours, have been incredibly beneficial in allowing me to manage my responsibilities while maintaining a healthy balance between work and personal life.

It’s the combination of the people, work-life balance, abundant growth opportunities, ongoing training, and a supportive, collaborative environment that truly makes Phastar an exceptional place to work.
