Understandably, there is considerable excitement around the field of data science particularly in relation to healthcare and clinical trials. As described in another article in this newsletter “Machine Learning”, a key area of data science, is rapidly gaining traction in the healthcare industry.
At Phastar, the demand for data science led services has been increasing over the past few years, with many of our customers asking us to help them as they explore artificial intelligence, machine learning, and complex analytics. Data science is a multi-disciplinary field, bringing together different computational and mathematical/statistical skills with a wealth of experience in clinical trials and healthcare. There is considerable overlap between the field of data science and statistics and here at Phastar we have a strong and successful reputation for our statistical expertise.
The new data science team at Phastar will complement the pre-existing high quality statistical, programming and data management functions, offering to provide a more diverse set of services to enable you to make the best use of your data and metadata. Within the data science team, we are passionate about maximising the value of data: utilising the team’s technical skills in data processing, analytics, machine learning, algorithm development and visualisations as we apply strong scientific domain knowledge to support pharmaceutical and biotech companies with their data-related challenges.
We are experienced in translating an often complex, scientific question and formulating a data-driven solution and novel data insights to support and accelerate decision making during a clinical trial. The team are excited about the opportunity to assist clinical teams to make the most use out of existing clinical data, as well as integrating and analysing complementary data such and wearables and biosensors, electronic healthcare records, real world data and other -omics datasets.
Over the coming year we have some interesting data science challenges already in the pipeline, which we will update on during future Phastar newsletters, and the new data science team look forward to supporting you in tackling data-related problems and capitalising on the value from your data. Whether you are interested in gaining insights from your data through machine learning, or maximising the value from patient-generated data, such as wearables, or even understanding more about how data science may benefit you please do get in touch.
